Ed tech for change
Tides of Change
Tides of Change is an educational StoryMap and educator guide created by marine biologist Dr. Asha de Vos and educator Sarah Gallah to connect students and the public to Sri Lanka’s coastal marine environment. This project was supported through the National Geographic Society Explorer-Educator Exchange.
Through interactive visuals and stories, the StoryMap highlights the importance of the ocean and the critical threats facing Sri Lanka’s marine ecosystems such as warming temperatures, coral bleaching, and microplastics.
Through a series of interactive activities that accompany the StoryMap, this teacher guide provides a structured approach to engaging students in understanding the importance of marine ecosystems and their personal connections to the sea.
This report details how students in both Sri Lanka and Toronto were empowered to adopt an explorer’s mindset and become active stewards for marine environments through the StoryMap and activities in the Educator Guide.
